The Fringe – Edinburgh’s World Famous Festival

The world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival begins in just 2 months – starting on the 3rd of August and ending on the 27th of August.

For those who are not familiar (have you been living under a rock?), The Fringe is an annual festival that celebrates everything from comedy to the weird and wonderful! It welcomes acts from all over the world from every genre imaginable – dance, comedy, music, theatre – the list goes on!

The Fringe story dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up, uninvited, to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival – an initiative created to celebrate and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second World War.

Despite the eight groups not officially part of the International Festival programme, it definitely didn’t stop these performers! They went ahead and staged their shows on the fringe of the Festival anyway, which coined the phrase and the name – the Edinburgh Festival Fringe! This courageous movement sparked something in others and since then, thousands have flocked to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to display their talents and enjoy the art of every genre.

Some of the most popular venues participating in The Fringe this year are Acoustic Music Centre @ UCC for plenty of great live music, Monkey Barrel Comedy Club for amazing stand-up acts and Underbelly for a mix of comedy, theatre and music.

If you don’t mind a scenic walk through Edinburgh, 23 Cordiners Land97 Rose Street Self-Catering Apartment and The Bothwell Bonnie Thistle are all within a 10-30 min walk from the above venues and plenty of other fantastic participating venues.

If you are looking for properties that are more central, Royal Mile Self Catering apartments and Atholl Brae are perfectly located right on the Royal Mile where there will be plenty of street performers to keep you entertained whilst exploring.
